Delaware Furbowl 33 POST MEET REPORT

We start off the Delaware 2012 season with one of the biggest and most frantic Delaware Furbowls in Furst State history! We had a door-busting 206 (two hundred and six) attendees at our 2012 kick-off event. We've got a lot of improvements to implement if we're going to be drawing a crowd of this magnitude.

For the future Furbowls we will be arriving at the dinner portion 30 minutes later. This means the event will start at 7:00 from now on and we will begin dinner at 7:15. The dinner portion will officially end at 8:15. The reason for this is that we are leaving CiCi's pizza too early for the initial staff members to setup the party room at the alley effectively. So again. FUTURE DELAWARE FURBOWLS WILL START AT 7:00 WITH DINNER AT 7:15. PLEASE SET YOUR ALARMS ACCORDINGLY.

During this night, what with 200 somesuch furries running about we did not get a chance to introduce all the new attendees. I feel absolutely tragic that we didn't get a chance to act out on this Furbowl tradition and I apologise profusely if this was your first time and you didn't get to say hello world! Make sure you come by next month so you can say hello world there!

We debuted the newest 2012 Furbowl badges and they sold like hotcakes! We actually ran out of plastic badgeholders during the night so I want to apologize there as well. We're putting in the order for some fresh plastic holders soon and come DE Furbowl 34 you'll be holding your badges in freshly made plastic glory. Speaking of badges we're looking at implementing a dedicated badge and stamping table. It's getting a tad crowded at the cash desk and it's becoming pretty much necessary! Keep an ear out as we'll be rolling out some logistical changes for our cash and info desk soon!

With the amount of people we've been seeing at these events things have been slowing down with the alley getting our lanes turned on. Ideally we want everyone to start bowling at 9:00 PM but it seems lately we've been tardy at 9:10, 9:15, and even worse 9:20. We're coming up with plans to work with the alley so that we get our lanes turned on at 9:00 on the dot. I also want to see about having volunteers in the alleys helping people get signed in. I don't want anyone paying to bowl and not getting the chance to actually bowl. It's not a furbowl without the bowl!

Our fursuit headless lounge has been a fantastic success ever since it was implemented. But however you frame it stuffing 50 walking, talking, water drinking animal people in one room is going to cause some confusion. We've tried to alleviate this confusion by having a dedicated staffer act as Headless Lounge Controller (think air traffic control for furries). During the initial rush however that staff member got stuck at our cash desk but fortunately we have a furry among us who felt up to the task and took over the headless lounge for our most busy night. Thus I would like to introduce Sapphy as the newest DE Furbowl staff member to be drafted to the cause! She is now the head for the headless lounge.

Another thing we tried implementing tonight was taping for the group photo. We bought some of the loudest, brightest, pinkest duct tape we could find and laid it out on the floor right before the group photo. It's main reason for existence being so that it was easier to tell where to go and where to be when you had to get in the photo. It worked, well enough but we do need to work on our positioning so that we can maximize the useful space. We're in the process of securing a tripod for the official group photo and trying to find of ways to organize the crowd as efficiently as possible. I ask that you please bear with us during this time of experimentation for the photo as we're going to be trying out a whole bunch more ideas as 2012 rolls on to see what works best.

One thing that we still did not get the chance to implement that night due to the sheer number of people during the night was the artist's table. Unfortunately the tables we normally use for Furbowl had taken some severe casualties during the previous nights and were in fact broken. We're going to contact the alleys to try and make sure this doesn't happen again and see if it's necessary to bring our own tables. Time will tell but we haven't forgotten about our artist's table!

Logistically during the night we were overwhelmed and by some miracle we were able to keep relatively on schedule. However we had signs missing, water buckets not filled, tape not taped, etc. However thanks to this communities unphased spirit everyone I talked to throughout the night seemed to be having a wonderful time. I want to thank you guys for being so dang plucky. Myself and the staff were running around like madmen trying to make sure everything was holding together while y'all were just chillaxin' enjoying the night.

From this spirit you can count on the Delaware Furbowl staff to bring thier A-game for the 2012 season. We're re-organizing ourselves, re-thinking our plans and schedules, and sharpening our logistics as sharp as a tiger claw. It might be bumpy in a few spots but know that we're constantly trying to improve the DE Furbowl. As such any raves, nays, comments, or complaints are greatly appreciated. The DE Furbowl can do nothing but grow stronger with your input.

Well that was a whole lot of talking so I'm gonna go ahead and shut my yapper so we can get back to planning next month's DE Furbowl!

Can't wait to see you all again for another fun furry night!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also please stay tuned. We have a very serious announcement that we're publishing in the next day or two about an incident that happened at the most recent DE Furbowl. It's a very serious incident that we feel deserved it's own announcement.

Delaware Furbowl 32 Post Meet Report

And so concludes the 2011 DE Furbowl Season with DE Furbowl 32 now behind us. We had an absolutely astonishing number of 164 attendees for this month’s event. Our old record was 147 and to blow it out of the water like we did took my breath away. I didn’t think we’d hit 150 before the years up, but now I’m wondering if 200 isn’t too far off.

Trust us when I say we’re doing our best to keep the quality of the event as high as possible. We want to keep that same warm, welcoming, and personal atmosphere that has made the DE Furbowl so successful throughout its events, no matter how many attendees we have.

The night’s event itself went very very smoothly. I apologize the lanes opening up slightly later and we’re working on our co-ordination with the bowling center staff each time to make sure we get lanes opened up as soon as we can.

Looking into the next year I have some things I’d like to come improve upon.

I want to re-examine how we do the group photo for 2012 season. What we have going now works for the most part but with so many folks and the event growing as it is I think we can organize it better. The fursuit section of the group photo especially. There was an accident that caused a fursuiter some distress (completely my fault) and I want to make sure that never happens again. You’ll be seeing some changes there and we hope you can bare with us while we figure out what works greatest for that part of the Furbowl.

We’re also going to look into expanding the headless lounge. It, like the group photo, works but is a little cramped and chaotic. An easy fix should be just moving the wall forward but we’re going to do some measurements to see if we can come up with a better way to optimize that space. Once again, pardon our dust while we try to change things for the better in 2012.

One item that we didn’t get to implement this year was a “artist’s alley” type area. Which comes down to a matter of space. We had wanted to try and figure out where we can dedicate some tables and space for our artists this year but we never got the opportunity. With our winter break coming up we’re going to definitely try and prioritize this. I see
so many artists hanging out on the floor or macgeyvering positions around the arcade machines that I think it’s about time we had a proper place for the furry artists.

One thing the DE Furbowl depends on is it’s RSVP list over at surple.com. We use it to try and judge how much space we’re going to need to comfortably house the event and figure out what amount of lanes and
eating spaces we’re going to need. It’s very, very important that you let us know if you’re coming. I don’t need my stripes fading just yet!

Another thing the DE Furbowl depends on is it’s bowlers. During this event we had roughly 60 bowlers which was 40% of the attendance and it’d be much more comfortable if we can get that up to 55% to 60%. While it’s OK to come to the event and just hang out it really does help to bowl. It’s a way to justify us spreading out across the lanes and make sure we have enough room for everyone. More space, more fun.

The good news is that we are consistently hitting the mark for discounted bowling. Our special group rate isn’t in danger of going anywhere. The bowling alley staff and management are also still happy to accommodate us each month. We get a lot of smiles out of the people that work there and you guys are phenomenal in helping clean up after ourselves which really does help.

With the end of the 2011 DE Furbowl Season I just want to give special thanks to everyone that helps run things behind the scenes. These are the folks that put up the headless lounge, man the info desk, take the pictures, and go above and beyond in their support for the Furbowl.

LupineSpark: The #2 guy and one of the best friends a tiger could ask for. You’re selflessness and smarts are more valuable to this event than you know. Thank you so much
Luna Cevere: Your sanity is contagious. Thank you.
Reaux: Your photos look super awesome, your upkeep on the TFS FurAffinity page is invaluable, and your upbeat attitude helps fuel the Furbowl. Don’t stop doing what you’re doing!
Paintid: Your straight-shootin attitude and ability to get what needs to be done, done is top-notch.
Bartlett: Your unquestioning manning of the info desk and reliability helps keep me sane.
Inu-Desu: You might not be a Furbowl staffer (yet) but you sure act like one, thank you for the support!
Fawkes: Your support and experience are extremely valuable. You have a knack for being where you need to be without me knowing you need to be there. Keep this up.
AbelPhellon: Your upbeat attitude and wonderful voice bazooka bring me peace of mind and keep my voice in one peice. Thank you!
SkippyFox and LupineFox: Your surple.com website is amazing and continues to be a critical part of our event. Thanks so much.
SpiritWolven: You have no idea how neat I think those eartags are. Absolutely smashing!

And last but most certainly not least I want to thank the all of you wondeful guys and gals that make up the most unbelievable furry community in the world. You guys make the event as awesome as it is. It truly is an honor to serve you guys and your amazing support for the DE Furbowl continues to blow us away.

We’re looking forward to 2012.

We bring ourselves before you all bearing unfortunate news. Despite a massive search for a venue for this years New Years Furry Ball we have unfortunately come up empty handed. We’ve chased leads as far up as Philadelphia International and as far down as Dover, DE. But no hotel has been able to meet our needs. Trust us when I say that Protocollie and myself, Kitt3ns, are as disappointed as anybody. Both of us were gearing up, making out schedules, and trying to find fun things for the community to do throughout the night but unfortunately it’s going to have to wait until next year. The remaining November and December months simply aren’t enough time to put together an event this community is worthy of.

However rest assured we will not have this problem next year, or the next 3 years to be exact. The Embassy Suites in Newark, DE was thrilled with us the previous year and heard about our venue search woes. They contacted us and let us know that we have first-dibs on the ballroom space for the next 3 years. There won’t be any wedding reception blocking us from partying again, you can count on it.

For this year however we encourage you to spend time with your friends and family on New Years Eve. But keep your ear to the wind come this 2012 as without the burden of having to secure a venue you can be sure Protocollie and myself will be pouring all our extra energy into planning the most kick-butt furry new years eve party we can muster.

Happy Holidays Guys,
- Kitt3ns and Protocollie

Delaware Furbowl 31 Post Meet Report

This Halloween Furbowl has come and gone. Zombie casualties were high but the ponies paid a grave price as well. I'd say in the end it was a draw but these bitter enemies may clash again. All in all we had 88 furries take part in the night's events. It took a hit attendance wise due to the snowstorm that moved in. I hope all of our northern neighbors made out A-ok!

At the restaurant we eliminated the bottleneck by going in as people got there. It's nice and all to hang out and mingle before going in but I hate lines. So from now on we're just going to go into the restaurant as we get there.

I was also asked to pass this message on by the bowling lanes. Outside alcohol is not permitted and anyone caught with it will be removed. We didn't have a problem during the night but just a friendly reminder.

Also I want to remind folks that weapons are not allowed at the event. This applies to any kind of airsoft, paintball, or gas-powered gun. Peace-bonded or no, if you need some type of armor to properly use it please don't bring it.

The Code of Conduct for the DE Furbowl can be found here: http://thefurststate.com/forums/announcement-5.html

We've updated the alcohol and weapons section just to make sure things are clear.

Now with all the muffy business out of the way I have to say things went really well! New folks bein' made to feel at home, everyone seemed to have fun with the theme, and despite the weather abnormalities we pulled through!

Another fun thing, if you go to the front desk with a credit card to pay for a game with us, the teller reads "Furries Game." And while this doesn't quite affect how we run things, it's neat to know that we've earned our own button on their register.

I enjoy meets like these (minus the weather) where everything goes really well.

However we're always looking for ways we can improve the DE Furbowl. If you have any raves, nays, comments, or complaints then please let us know. You're input makes DE Furbowl be the best it can be!

Our next event is on Dec. 3rd and as of yet a theme has not been decided! Stay tune though guys, we're prepping for the 2012 season and we'll have a proper theme suggestion thread up before the next event.

Can't wait to see you all for another fun and furry night!
